Delay in diagnosing e-coli following an arthroscopic washout

  • March 25, 2015
  • Mr E suffered with pain in his right knee and was referred to Worcester Hospital to undergo an arthroscopic washout.  He underwent the procedure in May 2008 but there was a delay in diagnosing e-coli, following the procedure.  Mr E deteriorated and developed septic osteo-arthritis, a lung infection, severe sepsis, adult respiratory distress syndrome and, eventually, multi organ failure. He died on 3 July 2008.  Inez Brown managed to obtain compensation on behalf of the Mrs E.
