Psychiatric patient ‘let down’ by lack of 2Gether NHS Trust follow-up

  • March 25, 2015
  • “Keith” had suffered from mild symptoms of OCD for most of his life. Although he’d been able to manage his symptoms, following the death of his father in 2009 he suffered a worsening of symptoms and began to complain of acute OCD.  His GP referred him to 2Gether NHS Trust. Despite his chasing the Trust, it failed to follow up with him. He deteriorated, developed suicidal tendencies and resigned from work.

Keith was keen to return to work – and to show an employer that, with appropriate treatment, he would be able to do so. He approached a psychiatric negligence claims expert for help.

    Understanding Keith’s Psychiatric Negligence Claim

When 2Gether NHS Trust failed to follow up on Keith’s referral, his GP chased the Trust.  It was noted that they had omitted to send Keith a letter confirming a treatment plan.

To remedy this he was fast-tracked on to Let’s Talk Psychological Service, which he attended regularly until February 2012.  He made a good recovery and his OCD went into remission.

It was important to Keith that he received compensation to not only support him through his treatment and return to work, but to also demonstrate to future employers that he had been let down by the healthcare system. Keith was keen to rebuild his life after this negligence and we were able to help.

We managed to obtain compensation after obtaining supportive expert evidence and serving a detailed Letter of Claim.
