Sophie Keatley

Chartered Legal Executive (FCILEx)

A bit about me

I care deeply about my clients and their lives. Being able to have a positive impact after a difficult experience is richly rewarding, which is why I’m more than happy to communicate with them out of hours in order to get the job done. I have an intellectual interest in medicine and enjoy building my knowledge of the industry, whilst seeking to improve it.

I support all types of medical negligence claims including claims involving children, delayed diagnosis, surgical error, gynaecological, and fatal claims. Obtaining life-changing compensation for my clients and/or their families is a matter very close to my heart.

I am a passionate family person myself, as the oldest of five children. As well as spending time with my family, outside of work I am also a huge animal lover and I love nothing more than spending time with my cat, Blue. I also dedicate time to supporting Acorns Children’s Hospice.

Discover my top tips

  • Keep notes of what you are told and when you were told it
  • Don’t be afraid to ask questions! It is your body/your loved one and the medical profession have a duty to ensure that you understand your diagnosis and/or treatment and/or what has gone wrong.
  • If treatment has been recommended and you wish to undergo the treatment, continue to attend for it, regardless of the claim you are bringing. Your health is the most important thing.

Questions I’m frequently asked

Will bringing a claim mean that I will be treated differently by the medical professionals treating me?

No, there should be no change in how you are treated. It is often the case that, particularly at the start of a claim, the treating clinicals will not even be aware of the claim as it will be dealt with by the Trust’s legal team.

How long will my claim take to conclude?

The average time it takes to investigate a claim and bring it to a conclusion is 18 months – 3 years.

Will I be left out of pocket if my claim fails?

No, we investigate claims under a “no win, no fee”. If you don’t obtain compensation, you pay us nothing, it’s as simple as that!
