Psychiatrist Guilty of Sexually Assaulting Male Patient

  • January 22, 2018
  • A respected psychiatrist has been accused of rape and sexual assault charges against patients which took place over a 20 year period.

It is alleged that 77 year old, Dr Brian Harris’ victims were vulnerable men, the youngest was an inpatient at Cardiff Hospital at the time and another was recovering from brain damage.  The alleged counts of assault are said to have taken place between 1991 and 2011.

One victim said “I didn’t want to do what I was doing…He had control of my drugs and whether I could stay out of hospital.  I had to do sexual things to get my medication.”

Although Dr Harris denied all 13 charges a jury found him guilty on one of the charges which took place in 2011.

Charlotte Measures, Senior Associate at Medical Accident Group said “If patients cannot trust in doctors or medical professionals to act in their best interest, then that leaves them, especially vulnerable patients, in a most desperate situation.  This verdict should hopefully aid in preventing such intolerable actions from occurring within the medical profession and should be seen as a warning that such behaviour cannot and will not be tolerated.”
